I'm a fifth-teen year old, currently enrolled at Thomas J. Corcoran High School, where I am a sophomore I currently take IB classes and wanted to start tutoring to pass the time and pick up a little extra cash. I'm drug free and have never tasted alcohol. I try to be patient and usually am. I'd prefer to work with children still in elementary or middle school, seeing as I haven't learned everything yet. I know the basic and more to just about everything eighth grade and below. Typically the setting in which the tutoring will take place will be my house in my dining room area and after that the student may watch television until his or her parent or guardian is there to pick them up.

LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.

My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I have had multiple stories featured in various publications

I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. Children need to learn whether via spoken (lectures, slides,) or written word (powerpoint, research journals, quizzes,). My teaching style will vary depending on the class as a whole or the type of student I am working with individually. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. In my mind success as a teacher is largely based on the success of the student and I am able to figure out what a specific child needs and adjust my teaching style to that student.
