I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student. Currently, I have 15 graduate semester hours including Advanced biochemistry, parasitology, Advanced botany, and Plant development. In addition, I have extensively learned proper laboratory research paper formatting. I have tutored Anatomy/Physiology, general chemistry, and pharmacology.

I find that teachers are most effective when they get to know the children. What interests/motivates them. Using that information I create lessons that are specifically suited for them. By using a variety of resources I help students maximize their potential by realizing that learning can be fun.
After receiving my teaching degree in May 2004 I was a substitute teacher in Washington State for 6 months. Then I spent the next 27 (Jan. 2005- Apr. 2007)months working as a Teacher Collaborator in the United States Peace Corps. Upon successful completion of the Peace Corps I moved to London, England and taught 6th grade from 2007-2010. During that time I did 1-1 tutoring with 10 children for a total of 100 hours. Tutoring was primarily in Math.

I have taught mathematics for over 23 years. In Ohio I taught at a middle school for 2 years and then at an all boys high school for 17 years. At the high school I was the math tutor and worked with the students in all areas of mathematics from prealgebra to calculus. Curently I am teaching at Wallace Rosehill High School in North Carolina. A Little Bit About Me...

I first started tutoring while attending NCSSM, a state funded boarding school for the "best and brightest" students in North Carolina. I went on to continue tutoring at NC State University, where I took a formal class on tutoring to better my abilities, and tutored non-physics major students, including one with a learning disability. After gaining a B.A. in Creative Writing and minor in physics, I moved to Florida where I obtained my teaching certificate for physics, grade 6-12. I tutored while looking for a job, helping younger children in math.
