My comments on tutoring Genetics : 20 Years teaching experience

20 years experience in mostly urban school settings. Experience with students with disabilities. Written curriculum for living environment, earth science and chemistry. Proficient in computer technology and excellent track record in passing regents exams. Attended CIBT summer July 2014 where I learned cutting edge lab techniques and worked with Cornell equipment. Using this equipment allows me to borrow equipment, labs or bringing professors to the school I teach. I use STEM lessons along with cross curriculum lessons in my teaching.
I believe all students can succeed. I use a multi sensory approach to my teaching to allow all students to learn. I also believe in hands on learning in science. I commend respect from my students and have excellent classroom management.

My comments on tutoring Genetics : I received my BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry with honors in 2010. I took upper level biological genetic courses and excelled. Although I received A grades, it has been 3 years since I took any genetics courses.

I have tutored one-on-one as well as to large groups. My focus is on college level science classes. I feel that bringing creative and unique methods to learning helps student overcome their dispassion or fear. My sessions aim to be positive and motivating. Although I have won numerous awards for my creativity, and presentation methods, the greatest reward have been the smiling faces of my students after the course when they brag about their final grades. I have done assistant teaching for my professors at Concord University. I helped set up laboratory equipment, answered college freshmans' questions and provided reasons for why certain biological processes occurred in Biology 102. I only did it for two hours per week, but I learned how to cooperate with college students and provide my insight of biology.
I had no exact teaching method. However, I was able to answer simple questions and allowed the students to work on their problems by discovering some of the ideas themselves.

A Little Bit About Me...

Between my studies at Roberts Wesleyan College in the liberal arts field, where I earned a bachelors degree, and my studies in math and computational science I have an exceptionally broad knowledge base. My work experience further illustrates this having worked briefly as an English teacher in Prague as well as the various sales and customer service jobs I have had including Verizon Wireless, Wegmans, and Radio Shack.
I love working with people and teaching them about the things that I am passionate about. While obtaining my Master of Science in Biology at the State University of New York College at Brockport I was a teaching assistant for various biology labs. Also as a graduate student I was asked to hold review sessions for the entire Microbiology class for a semester. During these review sessions I would hold lectures and ask any questions, as the Microbiology tutor I also held office hours for all students. While teaching I graded lab reports and helped students answer questions that pertain to the labs.

I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs.
