Turning your weakness into your strength

I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"
I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

I have tutored a variety of students from middle school to the university level. Currently, I am a writing expert. I love working with all different types of students from a variety of backgrounds. Through teaching and tutoring English, I often learn about my students' language and culture as well. I recently relocated to the Huntersville area. I recently graduated from UNCW with a degreee in Psychology with a focus on children. Since middle school, working with children has been my passion. I realized my dream after some of my cousins came over to America from the war torn country of Liberia and were having a very hard time adjusting. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill's Master's Program for Rehabilitation but declined after fearing it would take me down the path of working with the elderly instead of working with children. I have very extensive experience working with children at camps, researching at UNCW, tutoring foster children, and special needs with Lindley Habilitation services in Wilmington (mainly working with a client having Hunter's syndrome who was learning sign language, etc). I am both CPR and first aid certified. I have used all my knowledge of math (especially st ... read more

I recently graduated from Wake Forest University with a BA in Philosophy, and a minor in Psychology. Because my major concentration is broad, I have a strong background in various fields--math from years of logic, grammar from years of writing, and critical thinking. For the last 4 years, I have been working with children with autism in both the home and school settings. In this field, I have focused on increasing these children's expressive language and socialization skills. I also have tutored privately in home in the fields of biology, social studies, and mathematics.
I am an advocate of early intervention. Especially in the special education field, it is imperative to begin a child's learning at the earliest available time. I do not have a strict teaching style, but, instead, am flexible according to your child's passions and strengths. I believe it is best to transfer kn ... read more

As a UCF graduate and even prior to that I have always helped in the area of homework and study. I have earned a bachelor degree in Psychology and I have started a second bachelor's degree in Forensics. I have obtained many tutoring skills in my various areas of study including math, English, psychology, and science.
I have worked with children since I was 13. I have worked in settings where I was a daycare worker, a nanny, and a substitute teacher. I believe that each child learns in a different way, and as a teacher it is my challenge and duty to teach in such a way, to approach the problem from enough different angles, that each student would understand the concept at hand. I love that challenge. I am easy going, patient, and I relate well to children. I look forward to learning with and from each student I encounter.
In 2002 I graduated with a degree in biotechnology. During the last semester of school, I was a substitute teacher, where I learned a lot about children and different teaching styles. After graduation, I pursued a career as a chemist, but I always maintained a second part-time job teaching, in some fashion. Usually, that teaching involved a pool. I have been a swimming lesson instructor for 10 years and have been a YMCA swim coach for 3 seasons, coaching over 200 children per year. In these opportunit ... read more
