A Calm, supportive, and structured formula for growth, with take away techniques. The light bulb moments are what motives the student to learn the subject at hand. Positive, upbeat environment, to encourage rather than discourage the students continued improvement.
My experience comes from many years of Teaching, Training, and Coaching. My first teaching experience come form Douglas County as a substitute teacher mostly for the special education program. Next I have worked for Fairfax County Schools and for Fairfax County Program called SACC. My years in Richmond were with Chesterfield County Schools and Club Z Tutoring. I have more than ten years experience teaching Advanced Placement Language and Composition, Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, ACT/SAT Prep, history, journalism, public speaking, and dramatic events. I thrive on teaching and student success.
I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Then, the student and I work together to master a concept. After that, I provide the student an opportunity to practice and demonstrate his/her mastery of the material in a variety of situations. Reading is one of my top subjects!

I believe that every student has the ability to learn. Teachers must take the time to discover the individual needs of students in order to help all students be successful. I strive to provide individualized instruction in all areas and for all children. I firmly believe in involving a child's parents in all aspects of their education. Parents are a child's first teachers!
I have been teaching students with special needs for the past 14 years. I have experience with preschool through 6th grade. I also worked at Sylvan Learning Center, where I worked with students through 12th grade. I especially enjoy working with students with Learning Disabilities, lower cognitive abilities, and children on the Autism Spectrum. I am trained in a reading program for children with Dyslexia. More About This Tutor...

I try to find out the learning style of the person I am teaching and use that as my primary teaching style. Some people learn better by hearing, some by reading or seeing and some by doing. I think focusing on the style that the person prefers to learn and then backing it up with the other styles to reinforce what they have learned is the best way for the student to retain the information. I think it is important to include all 3 styles no matter which way the person learns best because they need to be able to learn in the style their other teachers use as well.
I began tutoring when I was a Jr. in high school. I tutored a variety of subjects for grades 5 through 8 during my last two years of high school. During my freshman year of college I tutored a classmate in English Composition I. More recently I tutored a college freshman in Algebra and some of my peers for continuing ... read more

I firmly believe that all teachers need to do the following things in order to be a well-rounded and thorough instructor: * be acutely aware of the core concepts to be taught * have deep knowledge of facts * organize related features and skills * activate learners' prior knowledge and experiences * design lessons based on national and state standards * connect curriculum to other content areas * Always provide accommodations in order to meet the needs of all students * Work well with other faculty members. In order for a successful teacher to accomplish the above, it would definitely take more than just a "little bit of knowledge," - rather, it takes thorough planning, conceptualizing, and calculating to be the best.
