I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth. My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. I am a patient teacher not rushing the students to complete the task so we can quickly move onto the next skill. I would rather take the time and know the student is comfortable with a concept before adding new information. I use a variety of strategies from flashcards to mnemonic techniques to worksheets to hands-on activities, basically whatever will help the student become successful. Throughout my teaching career I have had the opportunity to teach a diverse group of students from K-12 in a core subject areas. I taught kindergarten for three years. I have also taught math and reading in an online classroom. Currently I substitute teach in all subject areas. I believe all these experiences have helped make me a dedicated, flexible, and nurturing educator.
