I believe in creating students who have learned how to learn. I understand that I am only a temporary fixture in the lives of most students. Consequently, I strive to help them understand how to acquire information and ask the right questions so that they can succeed long after I've left their lives. I believe all children are capable of academic success and I hold high expectations, especially of students who others may have written off.
Through my volunteer work with church organizations I have over five years of experience mentoring others, which has given me an excellent understanding of the need for quality educators. I worked as a teacher in Kansas before moving to Oklahoma, where I currently work at a local Boys and Girls Club. While in high school, I discovered my love for math and began tutoring classmates in that area. My interest in writing developed during my educational career at The University of Tulsa, where I had courses in advanced exposition and argumentation and writing for the professions along with literature classes in the areas of Russian and British Literature of the 18th Century, Eastern Literature, and Greek Literature. I also took courses in Spanish, including a composition course. I currently have contracts to publish 2 manuscripts in 2011, one being a compilation of poetry and the other being a research paper dealing with depression stemming from exercise withdrawal.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a long-term adjunct instructor, I have successfully cultivated an effective set of best teaching practices relative to the English language and Communications. I make every conscious attempt to relate to my students as individuals and to meet their educational needs. Additionally, I exert much effort with students to impress upon them the importance of education in their lives and the fact that learning can be totally fun.
I find it rewarding to teach children and adults the necessary skills that allow them to obtain full English literacy. One of the greatest accomplishments in the course of the educational process is the acquisition of full, quality literacy; it is the foundation. Consequently, I prefer a step-by-step, pragmatic method of teaching English language skills: phonics, words, syllables, consonants, verbs, sentences, punctuation, grammar, etc.

A Little Bit About Me...

I know that all students can learn. The trick to it is to get them to want to. As a teacher, I must be able to improvise, adapt and over come all obstacles that keep students from wanting to learn. I am an easy going teacher, looking for fun ways to teach the things that the students need to learn so they can reach their full potential.
I have spent the last 4 years working towards getting my BA in Education. I first earned my AA, concentrating on the Humanities. While earning my BA, I have had college level Grammar and Linguistics as well as a wide variety of Literature classes, including World Lit, American Lit, British Lit and Fantasy Lit. I currently work in the Writing Center, assisting students in all phases of paper writing, from research and drafting to the final draft and style.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is about learning instead of the outcome. I practice "learning by doing" where they create their own style and way of accomplishing the task based on age appropriate methods and ways that work for them. It is not about the final product, but rather how they get to the proposed finish. Kids will go as far as you push them and typically exceed ones expectations.
I began as an education major at the University of Central Oklahoma before switching to Oklahoma Baptist University. I have worked with children in a professional setting since 2004 in church, non profit, daycare, early childhood, and preschool settings. I value education and find it to be a crucial and vital part of child development. I have tutored autistic students, as well as taught preschool for 14 months both at Saint Dunstans Preschool and Holland Hall College Preparatory School.
