Latin is one of my top subjects! I have my bachelor's degree in Latin, and my education minor meant I was a student teacher of this subject for an entire semester.

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I many credit hours of pedagogy and teaching methodology classes, both for Teaching ESL and Latin, and a semester of student teaching under my belt.

My comments on tutoring Latin : Took two years of it in high school and have a general knowledge on vocabulary, basic sentence structure and introductory translation

I completed and earned my Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Mathematics from Marietta College in May 2012. I am currently attending John Carroll University to pursue my Masters degree. I tutored in high school and college for about 8 years. I am a mathematics major with a minor in history. I have taken upper level math courses all my life and I have helped out/participated with the college's mathematics department on occasion. I also have a love for the sciences, especially taking Chemistry and Astronomy just recently. My strong fields in mathematics include Algebra, PreCalculus, Calculus I, II, III and Discrete Mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a young student I was very motivated to attend medical school at a young age. I received a bachelor degree, BS, in biology with minors in both psychology and chemistry. After graduating with my undergraduate degree early, I unexpectedly found a passion for teaching. Currently, I am working towards my masters degree, MS, in biology. It was in my senior year at UConn that I learned about a program called City Year that enables young people as myself to work within the realm of urban education. As a City Year corps member, I was able to work both inside the classroom and after school with a group of 22 ninth grade boys at Glenville High School in Cleveland. Not only was I able to do in-class tutoring with these adolescents, but I was also able to to mentor them by encouraging them to do the right thing. Being so close in age to my students, I was further able to bridge the communication gap between these boys and their teachers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I love learning, and I get excited when a student fully grasps the material. I try and reinforce a teachers method of teaching.
