I began tutoring in sixth grade when I voluntarily gave up my lunch recess each day to help in a first-grade classroom. I continued to tutor my peers in high school. After I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, I was chosen by the Mayor of Bremerton to teach English in Japan for three years. I taught to engage the audio, visual and kinesthetic capabilities of each student in the learning process. I encouraged note taking by creating handout outlines of the information being covered and students inserted notes into each section of the outlines and I used physical objects to demonstrate how computer systems work and students took apart, put together and troubleshot their classroom computers. Midterm tests were take-home exams for students to research information and final exams were closed book taken in class with questions taken from the take-home exams.
