I am currently in the last 2 weeks of my masters degree at TAMU-Commerce. I have studied intensely under Dr. Brian Zator for the previous two years in all areas of percussion from classical, drumset, world percussion, and marching percussion. I have an extensive marching background including two seasons (2008-09) performing with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and a season of WGI with Rhythm X in 2010. The previous two summers I have also been on tour instructing the percussion section at the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. I am a very diversified teacher. I like position the students where they can teach them selves more than I actually teach them. In a normal lesson setting I only see a student one hour a week, and the rest of the time they must be able to navigate solutions by themselves. I have studied guitar since1972. I have taught thousands of lessons from informal setting with children to college level courses to older adults individually and in groups. I have played various stringed instruments in professional and other performing bands for most of the past 20 years. I currently teach elementary music and high school choir courses at a local public school. I use guitars and other stringed instruments in the classroom as well as offering after-school lessons and classes. During all these years, I have spent the most time teaching beginners and intermediate players. I send much of my at-home time playing and recording guitar and I would continue to be involved with music if I never earned another dime at it. I love biology. You will too. My students will become experts in their fields, but they are not there yet. It is not my style to throw them in the deep end and hope they can hear me yelling commands. It is my style to jump in and swim with them until they take off on their own. It is my desire to teach because it is here that I can know my students and personally be a part of their success.
