My teaching style is has proven to work with many students. The most important issue with tutoring is to identify where the student has the most difficulty. There are many ways to present material, such as discussion, visual effects and hands-on. What I have learned is that many people can learn through more than one way of teaching. It is important to go at there pace and reinforce the information they have already learned. I love teaching and it shows in my presentation and my tone of voice. I prefer to help individuals learn at their own pace, using their own preferred method of learning: visual, aural, hands-on, or a combination. I use analogies and real world situations that students are familiar with to convey abstract concepts. Although I am patient and encourage fun in learning, I urge students to meet their goals and then exceed their own expectations.
As a graduate student, I taught beginning and intermediate German language classes for 4 semesters, receiving above average evaluations each semester. I graduated from Henderson State University with a BA degree in sociology and since then I have worked in residential treatment facilities as a therapist, a teacher, and tutor or councelor. I am currently a CASA volunteer in Fayetteville, assisting children who need advocacy in the court system. I have taught either French or English, either in the classroom or as a private tutor, since 1989, when I was recruited as an undergraduate to teach Elementary French. For the next 5 years I taught all levels of French grammar and PhD readings, as well as first and second semester English Grammar and Composition courses while pursuing my MFA in Literary Translation (French and Spanish).
