My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very valuable experience teaching in a variety of classrooms. For one semester, I taught in a junior high life-skills classroom where we practiced daily living skills and went out into the community so the students could practice skills such as locating items in a store, paying with money, and crossing the street. Then I spent my Fieldbase semester at two different schools. The first one was 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities. Because all students learn differently, it is important for me as a teacher to get to know each student to find out what fits their needs the best. I am currently a Special Education student at Northern Illinois University. I at the beginning of the education program and think this would an excellent chance to start teaching. I have a vast background in science, being that my first major was biology. I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age.
