Israeli general ed, Hebrew and music teacher!

I just moved to Boston from Israel after finishing my service to the IDF. I will be beginning Berklee College of Music this fall for Songwriting and Music Education. A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music, I was trained to be disciplined as a music educator and as a performer. My classroom internship began freshman year and continued until my senior year when I was required to student teach general music classes.I also maintained my vocal performance level by giving recitals and continuing vocal studies even until the present time. I have been a church music director and soloist for twenty-three years and have taught general music in grades Pre-School-8 for twenty-eight years.
I particularly enjoy teaching grades K-5 because they are very eager to learn and explore music through movement, Orff instruments, singing, and dancing. However, I enjoy teaching students who are serious about learning an instrument and want to progress. I believe that all children have a certain potential which can be achieved with perseverance.

While at Vassar during my senior year, I was employed by the music department as the music history intern. In this position, I was expected to instruct students enrolled in the current music history course once a week in new material as dictated by the professor. In order to prepare for this, I met with the professor prior, but often I was given freedom to design the lesson on my own. I also completed a correlate sequence in medieval/Renaissance studies, and took an array of history, art history, religion, gender studies, and English classes in addition to my required music courses. I earned my BA from Northwestern University in 2007 with a major in Philosophy. I started at Northwestern as a violin performance major at the School of Music, moving into Philosophy and later taking on public health. I came to Boston to complete the Health Careers Program at Harvard Extension School. In this program I completed two years of college science courses: a year of Physics, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, and Biology. I think one of the most important qualities for a teacher is to have a radiant enthusiasm for the subject you are teaching. After all, how can you get the students excited to learn, if you are not excited about the material you are teaching? You also need to be observant and able to identify how your students learn best and cater to their different learning styles.
