I have a love for learning and teaching!

I have been teaching special education for six years. I taught special education to kindergarten through third grade in a Montessori school for four years. I have experience in teaching students with disabilities in reading, writing, and math. Many of my students have also been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, autism, learning disabilities, and emotional impairments. I am currently teaching my second year at a center-based school for autism. In my teaching career, I have used a variety of hands-on material and visuals. I am also a native German speaker. I grew up in Northern Germany and I am therefore familiar with the German culture as a child as well as an adult.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with students of different ages: children through adults. I love to see the results of my teaching: for instance, people, who weren't able to pronounce a single word in Russian, start speaking in sentences, understand, write and read in Cyrillic. I think that the main goal is to achieve the academic success. The teaching methods could be different depending on the particular situation. I studied at Kalamazoo college, which was a liberal arts school that encouraged students to take a variety of courses. While, my major and expertise is in Biology, I learned about many different subjects and cultures through study abroad and course work. A majority of my teaching experience is centered around sports, as I played college tennis and have always had a passion for sharing my abilities with kids who want to improve their tennis game. A Little Bit About Me...

As a German major, I know what is involved in learning a foreign language. I taught German for two years to 1st-3rd graders, taught English language and American culture to 14-19 year old students in Austria, and have some experience teaching English to middle school students. Most of my experience teaching English comes from 8 months of planning lessons and teaching English to Austrians. I have lived in both Germany and Austria, and have studied German for 9 years. I am comfortable and confident in my skills teaching ESL and German, at any level.
I have worked with students of all ages. I try to vary the type of activities used to learn, from conversation, to repetition, to interactive games.
