Tutoring is one of my favorite jobs. I really enjoy helping students understand that they absolutely can understand a subject, and the one-on-one, focused nature of tutoring fits my personality very well. I am encouraging and very patient, but no pushover: I realize that the best way for a student to remember a concept is to play an active role in figuring it out. That is why my teaching style involves asking a lot of questions. I provide explanation when needed, but I make students fill in a lot of the gaps themselves. That way, they gain a deeper understanding of the material, and they will be able to remember it much longer.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989. My degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. I taught in the same school district for 20 years where I gained experience teaching first, second, third and sixth grade. I am currently employed as the Elementary Student Advisor with the school district that my previous school district recently merged with. My daily duties include teaching guidance classes, advising individual students, working with At-Risk students on homework, and being a liason for parents and teachers. I love my job!
I believe that every student has the privilege and desire to reach his/her learning potential and that there are many different techniques and strategies to help them reach that potential.
