Upbeat and positive, I have excellent communication and organizational skills and love to see children learn and excel. I currently teach 5 classes a week and am responsible for lesson plans, supplies and having students complete projects from start to finish. I also provide parents with my lesson plans so they are aware of the lessons I am focusing on. I am experienced not only in teaching children but also with conversing with parents. I am knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and experienced working with children with a variety of needs. I believe every child is an individual that should be treated with respect and understanding. My approach to teaching utilizes a child's interests, technology, engaging texts, and inquiry-based projects. Tutoring can be so much more than impersonal instruction.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey was a very fast paced and in-depth educational experience; striving to reach my top most capabilities as a teacher. I acquired two bachelor degrees consisting of a Ba in Fine Arts and a BA in Secondary Education. I have furthered my teaching experiences by tutoring learners from grade levels, ranging from k-12, in subjects revolving around english, reading, phonics, main idea grasping and mathematics. This only broadens my teaching horizons of subject matter. I would much rather teach art, but have grown comfortable in tutoring these other subjects. I am a certified teacher who wants to spread my passion for the arts to learners everywhere.
My educational philosophy is a very simple one that can be broken down into three basic elements: (A) Students leave the classroom feeling accomplished in their efforts in my class, (B ... read more

I have my BS in Psychology and BA in Art. In May 2003, I received my Masters of Education (M.Ed.) from the University of Maryland in College Park. My work towards this degree provided me with an extensive understanding of scientifically based research, lesson plan development, and teacher training skills. I have worked as an educational researcher on three large-scale government grants studying students’ language and literacy development, and reading motivation, in preschool through college.
I am a determined, enthusiastic, and highly motivated teacher. I want students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in an atmosphere that is stimulating and adaptive to their diverse needs. I have focused on instilling in my students a love of learning. I believe it takes more than a single individual to make a difference in the lives of a student. As an educator, I have tutored students in mathematics and English from grades 4 through college level. I have taught songwriting in summer camps, 4th grade language arts and ESL to high school kids fresh from Korea. Also, as a Youth Advocate, part of my job description was helping my kids with school work and homework.
LOUD & LIVELY! I like to make the lessons I teach interesting and involvement is key. If I can educate and entertain (a tool I use), I command participation, respect and learning. Due to my style, students, once in a while, think it's all fun and games. I am also an enforcer of rules. If you want to continue to have learn and have fun, you better act right.

I will soon be graduating from Rutgers University with a B.A. in Psychology. I have always had a strong inclination to help people in any way possible. I decided to major in psychology for the pure reason of enhancing my education in understanding the cognitive behavior of adolescents in learning. I will be attending Columbia University in the fall to receive my Masters in Science of Social Work. I have created 2 eating disorder support groups, and although that is more psychological rather than teaching, it taught me how to act as a supervisor to others and teach them on how to live a better life. I believe my education in psychology and my experience as working as a supervisor to others are great assets for tutoring.
I have always loved working with children. I has a child care provider for one constant family for more than 6 years. One of the children had ADHD while the other ha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Lehigh University, I am interested in helping others learn about the subjects that I had become well acquainted with. I have a BA in Anthropology which I believe makes me a great candidate to teach a broad array of subjects including reading and writing, history, art, and cultural studies. In addition I have taken many art and architecture classes which makes me an ideal candidate for a holistic learning experience.
As a young man I had several problems with math. It turns out that I was unable to visualize what the equations meant in abstract algebra and calculus. Eventually I was able to relate these concepts to subjects that I found interesting such as music and archaeology. Therefore creating more interest in the subjects that I gravitated to naturally. I believe that I could explain concepts to others in a way that suits their interests. At the end of the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As I mentioned in the above paragraph, I meet the child where they are in their learning style. I can adapt to how they learn best and then use different activities and tools to again, "drive home" the concept of what the child may be struggling with. I love teaching anything!
When I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, I accepted a job at a small school in upstate NY that needed a PE teacher. I quickly learned to just relax and "go with the flow" of how the students learned the material and what kind of different activities that we could do to "drive home" the concept of what we were studying. I also learned to be very flexible. I wore many many different hats that first year of teaching which has given me to experience I needed in my recent years of teaching. I am passionate about sports, athletics, history and teaching as a whole!
