I enjoy children and trying to teach them new and exciting things. At times, I understand that it requires patience to work with children, but if you are able to do that then chances of success are much more likely. I believe that everything we teach to these children will be needed sooner or later in life, and that the understanding of this knowledge will further improve their lives. Rewarding a student for their efforts in trying to understand the material is my game plan. I want them to feel accomplished and satisfied for their hard work. I am a proud graduate of Iowa State University in Child, Adult, and Family Services with an emphasis on child development. With my education I have had experience researching child development in a hands on manner through the Iowa State's Child Development Lab, which ranges of children from birth to six years old. In the classroom, I have development an extensive understanding of the way children develop both mentally and physically, as well as effective ways to discipline children in a dignified manner. I was a volunteer mentor in college for one year, and a volunteer mentor in high school for two years. I chose this major because I am fascinated by children, and how they all develop at their own individual rate. I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it. As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them.
