I am a recent graduate of East Tennessee State University. I have a degree in Elementary Education and a teaching license in Tennessee and South Carolina. I have worked in an after school program for 4 years with pre-school (3 years) to 6th grade. I was a substitute for 5 months for kindergarten through 12th grade. I'm energetic and like to find fun ways to teach children. I'm creative, artistic, and enthusiastic.
I have enjoyed working with children for a number of years. They are fun and truely like to learn. Watching a child actually discover what is being taught is absolutely amazing. All people learn different ways so finding fun, different activities is a great way to teach. Having patience, consistancy, and encouragement are key concepts when working with children.

I feel that every child can learn, but every child learns differently. I feel it is very important to connect the content with the students. It makes the learning more meaningful. I enjoy working with students in small groups so that I can give them the attention that they need. My students learn through many of their own experiences as well. I am very patient with my students. I very rarely give my students an answer to a questions. Instead, I ask in the student appropriate questions or point the student in the right direction to figure out the answer on his or her own. I believe in positive reinforcement and allowing the child to succeed. Each learner is capable of learning when given the chance.

I am very easy to communicate with and I am very outgoing. I firmly believe that anyone can make music if they understand that it requires some practice and some desire to learn. I love seeing a child's face light up when they learn how to play a piece of music or make a sound on an instrument; it is a phenomenal feeling. I felt that I was cheated out of my music education so I try to make it my goal to make sure I do not do the same to other young people.
