A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Mount Union College in May 2006 with a BA in History and a double minor in Adoloescent to Young Adult Education and American Studies. Throughout high school I was a teacher's assistant helping with students in class during my study halls as well as working one on one with students for extra study skills. In the past few years I have tutored students in elemtary math, middle school reading and writing, and even my own students before and after school in social studies. I currently teach Civics and Economics which is an EOC course and I have taught this for 6 years now. I began teaching in 1976 in Tarboro, NC. My first teaching experience was in the middle school, grade 8. After that year, I taught fourth grade for 6 years. My next assignment was teaching at a junior high school grade 8 Language Arts, and grade 9 Basic English, and Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading. Political Science is one of my top subjects! See government. I have read extensively in political theory/philosophy, and am familiar with most statistical methods used in the discipline.

I finished as an undergraduate with a major in economics, and minors in history, philosophy and religion. Next I worked for a year as a political risk analyst for a large multinational company helping them evaluate risks inherent to investing in unfamiliar environments. I found I enjoyed the work, but wanted to get more economics training with the hope of teaching economics. I moved from the for-profit company to their non-profit foundation that sponsored economic research, and spent the next 4 years evaluating grants in the area of economics, public policy, law and political science. Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
