A Little Bit About Me...

I am a firm believer that every student has a unique way of learning. Every student is different and therefore no student should be taught the same. In my classroom I intertwine the works of Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence with Dewey's Constructivism to create an interactive learning environment. It is a goal of mine to allow each student to show their ability in the best manner that they can. Through the philosophy I teach by, I feel I reach each student to address their own unique abilities and skills. As a student who has dabbled in so many areas, it is easy for me to assess when a teacher/professor is not explaining a concept in a method that helps the students. I have previous experience tutoring, but my teaching talent comes from my role as the unofficial tutor for most of my classes. Although I have only held my BM in Music Education for a little over a year, I have always sought out opportunities to hone my skills as a teacher. While I was still earning that degree, I was the person many of my peers approached to help them understand music theory when they were stuck. None of them failed their tests after a few extra lessons with me. Since graduating, I have been working at a special education school as a one on one aide, and I am constantly making effort to coax out the musical side of my students, often with positive and exciting results.
