As a graduate student I taught an undergraduate engineering lab course for a semester, and spend 2-3 additional semesters grading tests and assignments for various undergraduate level courses in mechanical engineering. In addition, I also worked as a tutor during my senior year in high school, as well as at various times while an undergraduate student in college. The subjects that I have teaching/tutoring experience are in the fields of math and science.

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past year, I served as an Americorps volunteer in an inner city charter school with an emphasis on character education. I worked one on one with students helping them with math, reading, and science skills. I assisted in classroom teaching of mini lessons too. I also helped with their after-school program, I also created supplemental study guides and multimedia software to help students to improve their study skills. In my training as a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Quality Engineer, I use many mathematical models, including algebra, geometry, statistics, and engineering modeling.
My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution

This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths.
