My comments on tutoring Special Education : I am well-versed in Responses to Interventions and have served many special needs students during my career. I have experience in working with students daignosed with Autism, Aspberger's, Downs, ADHD, and other "labels", but I am not certified in Special Education. We can discuss your specific situation to see if I would meet your needs.

As mentioned in my earlier description, I have eighteen years experience as an educator. I have taught students of all ages from early childhood through college and non-traditional adult education. I believe in making learning fun and engaging by relating concepts to points of interest for the individual student.
Tutoring differs from teaching in that "style" is replaced by method. Some of the methods I have used in the past are rhythm and music, neumonic devices, and of course, drill and practice. I have been told that I am gifted with presenting material in novel ways.

I completed the alternate route requirements to gain my certification in Elementary Teacher. I taught Kindergarten and Sencond grade. I educated students with and without emotional impairments academic, social and motor skills. Planned curriculum and prepared lessons to meet individual needs of students while following curriculum guidelines and requirements of state and school. Conference with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers and other to develop individual educational plan for student. Prepared, administered and corrected tests while recording results. Prepared course objectives and outlines for course of study weekly.
I really enjoy working with all children. I feel it is important that everyone has an equal chance of learning. Everyone learns as a different level and some may needs extra help while others may not require any help at all.

I believe that every child has a different manner of obtaining and learning information and it is the instructor's duty to identify each student's learning style and to teach accordingly. Think of a key ring with all sorts of different keys on the ring. As a teacher you must try one key on the key chain at a time. Sometimes the first key will open the door to a child's success and other times it could be the fifth or seventh key. Teacher's need to be patient and work with their student's to best identify their learning styles and needs.

As a UNCP alumnus, I currently hold a BS in Biology. I have tutored peers in the past during my second year at UNCP. Subjects that I am familiar are science and math. I have a lot of experience in the science field. I currently work full-time in a lab using my science degree. I’m eager to work as a tutor and use my experience to help advance someone else’s education.
I have approximately one year of experience of professional teaching working with a grant funded program at UNCP. With this program was very hands-on and interactive with the students. I worked directly with the professors in the science department.
