A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong background in mathematics because I have earned a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics. I have always been extremely dedicated to my education; I have won numerous awards for academic excellence. During my time as an undergrad, I wrote many mathematical proofs and submitted them to college mathematics journals. I also have experience doing research in robotics. For the previous two years, I have tutored students in calculus, linear algebra, and algorithms. I was also a lab assistant who helped students with Java programming assignments.
My approach to teaching students mathematics is to first ensure they understand the basics. I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.

I am knowledgeable on the software and would be able to answer questions on statistics because of how well I did and how I used to help others who struggled with the class.

All students learn in a different way. Primarily, I will try to tutor to that students strengths, but I will include other ways as well. This is to allow the student various opportunities to better expand a topic they struggle with and gain more knowledge on that topic. My goal is to give students the confidence to succeed in the math classroom.
I graduated with my masters in math education in 2008 from SUNY Fredonia. During the school year, I am a substitute teacher. I have taught long-term at various districts in 7th/8th grades, as well as Algebra. Currently I am teaching summer school through a BOCES program, which includes Algebra and Trigonometry.
