When teaching, I will be mindful of my position as a role model and the kind of learning I strive to promote of transformative learning among students. Transformative learning is a reciprocal--informative and uplifting for teachers and students alike. It is about opening hearts and minds and changing lives for all those involved in the process. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. I directed the marketing and campaign programs for a school, which allowed me to utilize my expertise in writing, finances, community relations, as well as written and verbal communication. I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
