I like to take a 'backdoor' approach with my students by creating activities that are interesting and fun. I think this helps in changing the student's attitude from a negative to a positive one. I do believe everyone can learn and that it is my job to help facilitate this. I like to vary my teaching style while using interactive, kinetic, audial, visual and explorer type methods. This helps me find what works for individual students. I'm energetic but patient and positive. I think it is important to encourage a student's effort not just his/her outcome.
I have been a Reading Buddy in the Hoover School System for the last 10 years and am currently working with students in the Latino After-School Program at Rocky Ridge Elementary.
