Education, teaching in particular, gives individuals the opportunity to give back what they have received. It is communication on a broader level than just simply putting forth information to whomever chooses to accept it. I started my career in education before I set foot on a college campus, through a peer-tutoring program in my high school. This experience allowed me to work with severely disabled peers learning functional skills for independence. I've been teaching informally most of my adult life. I earned a 193 out of a possible 200 on a Praxis test that covered content knowledge of my subject area (English literature), and 179 in a comprehensive middle school language arts test, and am enrolled in Capella University, where I'm currently pursuing a master's of science degree in K-12 studies. Teaching has been my passion for a long time. My biggest strengths are not only considerable knowledge in my subject area, but life experience: I know what kids are up against if they do not maximize their educational chances in a timely manner. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one where I combine the approach that best suits the individual’s personal learning style with proven sound educational best practices. I have had successes with motivating students who usually do not like to read. I have been able to help them by meeting them where they are and then helping them to formulate and meet their own goals. I have high expectations of students; however, those expectations are tempered with a realistic assessment of what the student is actually capable of achieving. I find oftentimes that students are capable of doing a great deal more than they thought they could originally.
