My style is dependent on the student. While the end result is having a student understand the material, the way of achieving this varies with each person. Some students require a lot of hand holding while some require a more hands off approach. To achieve understanding I will cater to the students needs.
I have tutored high school students who are college bound during my undergraduate years at William Paterson University of New Jersey. I also tutored my fellow undergraduates. In tutoring any of the traditional subjects (Latin, Greek, formal/informal logic, rhetoric, critical thinking), I emphasize the objectives common to them all: (1) acquisition of context-specific vocabulary, (2) a feel for the flexibility and polysemy of a given word's lexical-semantic meaning, (3) a comprehension of the text's thematic, stylistic, and evaluative undertones and progression. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I like to use the hands on approach. I find out what the weaknesses are of my students and address the topics by giving a general review. I present a problem for them to work out. After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. If they cannot come up with one, I then guide them through the appropriate thinking pattern in order for them to solve the problem. For me repetition of different related problems is the key to success.

I love opening students' eyes to the wonders of science. It is my experience that a student can learn anything, even the most complicated scientific theories, if the teacher is patient and engaging. In teaching, I find the key to unlocking the minds of the students is to find the appropriate analogy or metaphor.
