A Little Bit About Me...

I have always told my classes, "Learning can be fun; and if it's not, you may not be doing it right." Of course, that does not mean learning isn’t work; but part of growing up – and selecting a career – is learning that work can be enjoyable. I should mention that it is not my way to enforce memorization for the sake of it. If you understand concepts, that is much better. I always say “an example is the embodiment of a rule”. I am always committed to a student’s success; and will not let him or her give up. The biggest thrill in teaching is watching a student suddenly understand a concept. It happens frequently, and it never gets old.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies with student learning styles. Although drill may be appropriate for some skills, my preference is project or problem based methods that draw on the learner's experiences and interests. I work from students' current skill levels, provide challenging problems, model successful learning skills, encourage students' to express creativity and intuition, and employ formative and normative assessments. I firmly believe that more advanced mathemtaics can be taught to younger and more diverse students. I believe that all students, of all skill levels, can learn mathemtaics if creatively taught.
