My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : Over the years I have studied both the way in which I have strategized when taking tests and the way others have. These strategies will help you reach optimal competency in your testing approach.

I have been immersed the field of interpreting since 2008. Having graduated out of Bloomsburg University in 2012, over the last two years I have been professionally interpreting in three states and in various fields. My work ranges from public school classes, college lectures, medical appointments, religious sermons, platform events and government assignments. Regularly, I attend different workshops and Deaf events around the community to keep up with my skills and to continue learning the ever changing language of ASL.
Start with the basics. Assess what level the student is at and then work that into a more challenging structure to pertain to what the student would like to accomplish.

Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.

As a teacher, I am well aware of the many different ways that children learn. As I said previously, I have been art of both the middle and high school environment, and have worked with students of many different levels. Some children excel when given more time, focus, or a new take on their academics. I truly believe that tutoring is an excellent supplement to any child's education because I know from experience that every student truly wants to learn, just in their own way. It is my goal as teacher and tutor to instill not only a better understanding of the subject matter in my students, but a love of learning and a sense of capability.
My MAT is almost complete, and focuses on Secondary English Education. During the past two years, I have been working as an intern and teacher on both the middle and high school levels. Before teaching, I completed by BA in Political Science ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. The high expectations of professors at Wesleyan pushed me to greatly improve my writing ability, with my music thesis earning me honors in music. Environmental sciences sharpened my science and mathematic ability. Extensive courses in music prepared me to tutor music students in any background or concentration.
I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no ex ... read more

I take a creative approach to learning and cater to each student's unique learning style. I assess their knowledge base, and I make learning fun by explaining and developing ideas in a way they prefer and in a way they best learn from. I have a warm, caring personality, and I try to approach any set of challenges in a cheerful light. I also like to instill confidence within my students whenever possible. For instance, the student and I work together through problems giving them a greater sense of ownership of their knowledge and abilities, in comparison to just being told the answer.

Personally, I am a firm believer in the constructivist, or active learning theory. I view myself as a facilitator, presenting opportunities for students to bridge material to their own lives through personal experiences and interactions. By supporting this theory, I place the responsibility on the student as the one who must take initiative in his or her own learning, as each child brings an entirely unique perspective and experience to the classroom. By acknowledging students’ diverse backgrounds as context through which students navigate in order to construct meaning, I allow for multiple viewpoints and interpretations of content. Constructivist theory also promotes active dialogue and peer collaboration as students internalize outside ideas, whether they be newly represented in a text or by an alternate perspective of a fellow classmate. Content, no matter the subject area, must beco ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and getting to know them and their learning styles. Each child learns in different ways and I like to focus on using a variety of methods. Some children are more visual learners, while others are auditory learners. I often like to "conference" with my students and get their feed back to know what is working for them or not and give them the effective strategies that work for them best. I strive to give them confidence in what they are doing and enjoy what they are learning. Teachers who are enthuastic, supportive, and understanding can make a world of difference to a child's educational program.

Education is vital to establishing a strong foundation on which understanding is based. The absence of education allows opportunities for ignorance to take root and grow, resulting in negative repercussions within society. Therefore, I aim to guide students in the development of the skills and knowledge necessary for becoming mature, contributing members of their communities.
I am a determined, enthusiastic, and highly motivated teacher, who wants their students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in an atmosphere that is stimulating and adaptive to their diverse needs. My expectations for my students are high, and by the end of the school year students realize that they can achieve any goal set before them. Math can be fun, especially when applied to exciting applications. For my work at NASA and the MITRE Corporation I use concepts from Calculus I-II almost everyday. Inspiring students to become excited about math and science is one of my life-long goals. Step by step visual diagrams can be effective tools for describing complex ideas. From my experience as a teacher and student I have had great success creating simple graphics to accompany otherwise dense math equations for circuits, data structures and statistics. This teaching style coupled with a fresh knowledge of math material as a graduating senior make me confident that I can be an asset to your team this summer. I will be returning to my home in Connecticut May 18th and would welcome the opportunity to and discuss starting work at Advanced Learners!
