A Little Bit About Me...

I have been educating people since 1987. I began in music education, which I taught successfully for 9 years, and also taught piano lessons. I then worked in special education for 1 year as an educational technician, where I tutored math, reading, and students with severe disabilities. I continued on a transitional certificate teaching elementary grades two and four, and most recently have taught post-secondary medical assisting students at a post secondary institution as well as teaching night courses in adult education in medical terminology and medical transcription. I enjoy teaching and use a variety of different methods. I incorporate different activities into each lesson to reinforce what we have learned. With my younger students I also incorporated a lot of music into the class that helped them with their verb conjugations, pronouns, etc. To keep the students' attention I am always keeping them moving, whether it be with an activity or just simply writing phrases on the board. I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights.
