I enjoy being able to work with children and being able to positively impact their lives whether that be through empowering them to succeed or teaching new skills. Throughout my graduate studies I worked as a substitute teacher from grades pre-k-12; however I especially enjoyed working with younger children as it allows for more creativity and thinking outside of the box. I believe in personal interaction with students – making them write, making them read – going over every detail, looking at the issues (grammar, punctuation, syntax, coherent structure (logic, unity, transitions, parallelism,)) and then re-writing and re-reading. The key to doing well in English is understanding basic structure and making it become second nature when writing. Through personal interaction, the process can be simplified by working hands on with each sentence and paragraph. A student learns best when he/she actually reads and writes and has someone to work with on the structure – through a workshop type approach – writing and re-writing.
