I enjoy teaching students of all ages, individually or in groups. I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved. I think students are best served when they can discover these answers for themselves. I have a BA in English and a Master's and Ph.D. in German (Germanic Linguistics). One thing I have learned in my many years as a tutor is that each student is unique. I try to be flexible in my approach. I have done a lot of teaching and tutoring, both with adults and young people. Most of my experience, though, comes from working with high school and junior high school students. I spent the majority of that time as a tutor/ mentor and would work with the students one on one or in small groups, both in the library or in the classroom.
