Dear Student, Hi. I am a math & statistics tutor and have been tutoring these two and other subjects for last 20 years. I did masters in Math from Lucknow University India in 1983 and then again another Masters from Canada ( University of Western Ontario ) in Statistics 1n 1989. I had physics, chemistry as minor subjects during undergrad. I have always been an A+ student and also was recommended for Gold Medal in Canada when I was doing Masters. My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Calculus: Everything is slopes! This is where math becomes Serious with a capital S, and often the trouble with Calculus is prior knowledge gaps. Generally for Calc students, I function more as a study-buddy, letting the student guide the process and assisting more in the leaps of logic between the arithmetic, algebra, trig, and other prior coursework.

My career path has winded around quite a bit but always focuses on computer science and math education. My education experience has included tutoring freelance, tutoring on USD's payroll, leading group study sessions, providing supplemental instruction for university coursework, leading workshops at a computer camp, writing workshops for that camp, and ultimately teaching math full time in a high school. My computer science field experience includes several part-time jobs, freelance web development, personal projects, an internship with NASA, and ultimately working full time as a Web developer.
I prefer personal and small group teaching, but I can also do online tutoring with Webex. I like to get to know my students and their goals. Practice, practice, practice. Math is not learned by watching, it is learned by doing. Some types of problems can be learned after only a few examples, others take much more time and patience. My role as a tutor is help guide students through a problem while doing as little of the actual calculations as possible. I try to make my students see that many problems, while different in appearance, are actually the same as ones they've already solved before. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for.
