I'm excited about helping students achieve academic success.

Teaching is what I’ve been doing my whole life. In every position I’ve held, there has been an opportunity for me to teach or train. My first job post baccalaureate was Mental Health Worker for Caritas Peace. There, I frequently assisted in the JCPS classroom as a teaching assistant. I’ve conducted religious training workshops through university campus ministry and continue to do this at my church. I continue to sharpen my skills by tutoring for Club Z Tutoring and grading state tests for Kelly Services as well as attending professional development courses in Corrective Reading, Classroom Management and technology in the classroom. I taught high school for 28 years. While teaching, I taught typing, recordkeeping, accounting, general business and a few math and English classes. I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and capable of mastering the subject. I have been very successful at this and have often had short tutoring assignments: once we discover what is keeping a student from grasping the subject, fixing it is easy and then the student can proceed on their own with or without the help of a parent. The younger the student, the more I appreciate having the parent involved in what I am doing, and the results we are achieving, so they can actively participate with their child, especially once I am no longer needed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always felt the joys working with children. I feel that everyone with learning disabilities can succeed; they just need motivation and perseverance. I thrive to motivate and teach the importance of perseverance to children. I make my environments energetic and positive for children to learn.
As a graduate from both Bellarmine and Sullivan University, I was very head strong about my education. Earning two degrees was very difficult for me due to my learning disabilities. I have Dyslexia, ADHD, and a deficit in Reading Comprehension. I have overcome everything that came my way in my educational path. I have mentored and taught 5th grade children in the bible at Southeast Christian Church for going on two years now and thoroughly enjoy teaching them.

Since I graduated from the University of Havana, Cuba in 1982 I have been teaching different grade levels students, from elementary school children through college and adults.
