Let's get back down to the basics (Latin, History, Science)

I recieved a BA degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I majored in Classical Civilization (with a Latin Concentration) and History. I have 12 years of experience teaching Latin. The courses I have taught include introductory courses, Latin I, Latin II, and Latin III. 3 years of Life Science teaching experience. 4 years of History teaching experience (as a tour guide and history interpreter) 12 years of experience teaching writing as well.
I like to boil things down to the basics. With Latin and Science that means learning as much as one can about the basic elements and then building one step at a time on those basics. In history, it means learning the story, and telling the story.

Latin is one of my top subjects! I am currently working on a Certificate in Latin at the Catholic University of America, but previously I had taken Latin throughout High School.

I am currently completing a Post Baccaulaureate certificate in Greek and Latin from the Catholic University of America. I had taken Latin during high school and worked as a tutor during that time. I am looking to begin tutoring again and hope to become a High School Latin teacher upon completing my program in December.

I have almost 10 years of experience of teaching students for the SAT,GRE, and specific subjects, combined. It started during my freshman year (1999) at Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). I tutored students through college in Biology, Chemistry and the SAT. Out of this experience, I instructed students for multiple semesters in a Biology Lab course. The key to teaching and learning Latin is patience. My approach combines traditional methods--for example, grammar work and vocabulary exercises--with newer methods that bring the materials alive for the students--for example, stories, word games, and projects. I studied Latin and Greek as an undergraduate, as well as French, German, and Russian, because I've always loved languages, especially hard ones. As a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland, I have both student teaching and full-time teaching experience at the University and 8th grade level. Currently, I am teaching Latin to 8th grade girls at the Bryn Mawr School - an independent K-12 school. My passion and knowledge opened the opportunity to student teach at the University of Maryland during my graduate studies. I continue to serve as an adjunct instructor to this day.
