I am a retired teacher, middle school, high school and district office administrator. I have worked with supplemental providers in my past position as Director of Curriculum and Instruction (Ed. Services). I presently sub for Palm Springs Unified in a k-12 capacity. I can tutor in all elementary and middle school subjects and in math through high school geometry. I am very skilled at the writing process, reading process and using effective instructional practices. I am a hands on conceptual style learner and like to teach the same way, I believe that students that can see the "why" can understand and retain what they learn. Engaging learners by using hands on activites can facilitate the learning process.

I love tutoring and working with students. I believe that students are capable to achieve and to learn whatever they need if they put an extra effort in their studies. I have learned that every person has different study habits, some things work for someone and others don't. As a tutor I try to find the appropriate technique to help the student in the subject they are having problems with. As an CSU-Pueblo senior engineer student, I know how hard some math classes could be. I have successfully passed all my math courses and I am one more class away to get my minor in it. I have helped students in the last 2 years with their math/Spanish courses. Students needed help in the beginning of the semester due to bad grades, through the semester I helped them to successfully improve their grades and review for every exam.

Range

Drafting is a Industial Arts subject. Students apply math skills to complete assignments. Math students can utilize practical uses to understand the theory of math. I will use many examples from my years of teaching to explain math. My tutoring background will also aid me in connecting the theory with the hands-on skills. My industrial experience working as a design/drafter lead me to attend college at CSULB, graduating in 1974. I later worked 23 years as a teacher, incorporating math within the drafting curriculum. I was fortunute to teach many types of drafting. Each and every one of them had math applications from basic arithmetic to geometry built into the class. During the last 8 to 10 years since retiring I have also tutored at Sylvan, covering many topics for Elementary to High School. I completed a Masters Degree in Education in 1991 at CSULB as well.
