My comments on tutoring Speaking : I hold a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelors in Molecular Biology. My teaching certification is EC-6 and just added ESL certified.

I believe all children learn at there own style and pace and that we as teachers need to find what works for the child and help them build on their strengths in a positive way.
I am a certified teacher and have been teaching for 8 years in elementary school. I began my teaching career by accident leaving the law enforcement field to work initially part-time as a teacher. However I really enjoyed working with children and found that I was good at it. Over the years it has been nice to hear both parents, teachers, and children comment that I have made a difference in their lives and that I have helped make them the young people that they are shaping to be. Many children and parents have said that while I was tough I have helped them stay in school and become A students. This motivates me to continue to do my best in my job and for the kids.

I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

Holistic Auditory Learners: Hear Auditory learners would rather listen to things being explained than read about them. Reciting information out loud and having music in the background may be a common study method. Other noises may become a distraction resulting in a need for a relatively quiet place. Visual Learners: See Visual learners learn best by looking at graphics, watching a demonstration, or reading. For them, it’s easy to look at charts and graphs, but they may have difficulty focusing while listening to an explanation. Kinesthetic Learners: Touch Kinesthetic learners process information best through a “hands-on” experience. Actually doing an activity can be the easiest way for them to learn. Sitting still while studying may be difficult, but writing things down makes it easier to understand. Types of Learning Styles: What Everybody Should Know Although most ... read more

My teaching credentials are in English and education. However... At the middle school level and high school level, I have taught/tutored English composition, geography, history, social studies, government, economics, and computer applications. At the college and adult level, I have taught/tutored English composition, oral communications (public speaking and debate), business and business administration, resume writing, advanced computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Open Office Suite). A Little Bit About Me...

Applicable to this job, I remember my high school years and the processes I had during my English and Composition assignments. I completed an English Bachelor’s degree, with three different areas of focus, Professional Writing, Creative Writing, and Composition. I am finishing a Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition. I am on temporary, as-needed employment at Pearson Education Services as a scorer. Finally, I tutored, assisted, and participated in the lives of my fellow students. My experience has allowed me to have an understanding of theory, practice, and rhetoric and solve any personal compositional and academic concerns that have come up, and I look forward to doing so again at this job of tutoring.
My missionary experiences informed me of one idea: people are important and they have to be considered person-by-person. Those experiences have led me to take a teaching phil ... read more
