I'll Teach your Student to Teach Him or Herself

I hate lecturing! I do! This is why my tutoring style is very interactive. I don't like talking AT a person, I prefer to have a conversation. My goal as a tutor is to make subjects interesting, and also to make sure they stick- so you can do well on exams. I also teach study skills in every session, so ideally you won't have to rely on me forever. I try to give students tools that they can use to teach them how to teach themselves- something they'll have to do if they're considering college.
I have worked as a tutor for 10 years in all subjects, especially focusing on ESL learners. How Much Do You Know About What You Know?

1. Assess student's current understanding of course material by asking a few questions and having student write a page summary. 2. Student and I again review material and locate gaps. 3. Student and I make timeline (or other visual aid). 4. Student is provided with study skills (reading, writing and memory- I'll bring these) 5. Again review course materials, incorporating new study skills. 6. Student and I search for real-life examples (current events/news, possible field trips, attending relevant events).
Graduated high school in 2002, with some advanced placement courses. Also attended University of Alaska, Fairbanks and Sebring Career School in Houston, Texas. I've tutored other students in grammar, middle and high school, in addition to those I've babysat and younger siblings. I've also helped student write research papers at high school and college levels.
