My approach is various, it depends on the children. I first have to identify the challenges they are facing. When teaching a foreign language, it is either grammatical, lack of vocabulary but also lack of practice in the logistics of the language (position of the words in a sentence). I try to remove the teaching from pure translation from English to French as this leads to poor fluency. This is the main challenge, and I explain it by relating it to French historical facts or habits which helps the students to relate to the language and hence, ease their learning. I also work extensively on correct pronunciation.
