My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I taught second grade for three years; can tutor in phonics and can help improve reading skills.

For the past 23 years, I have been working with the Testing Program for the state of North Carolina. I'm currently the English Content Specialist for Grades 3 and 4 Reading. I help to write the End-of-Grade Reading Tests for NC Public Schools. I have taught high school English for one year and second grade for 3 years. I have worked for the Kenly News and continue to write for them periodically.
I like to present information in a way that immediately engages the student and makes him or her want to learn. I have a great sense of humor and like to make learning fun. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Lower Elementary Teacher for 15 years. I like to look for the special ways to meet the way a student learns. I believe each child learns differently.

I am a previous elementary school teacher, focusing mainly in the lower grades during my 15 years of teaching. Prior to that I was trained and taught Montessori Elementary, Grades 1-3. I believe and was able to teach with a thematic approach in which all subjects were integrated. I was also trained in Bloom's Taxonomy, which is an awareness and knowledge of the seven different learning styles.
I believe each child has her/his own way in which to learn. It is a process of discovery but my experience and intuition are pretty darn good. I like to combine humor with organization and accountability, on my part, the student's part and as well as the parents'.
