I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Working primarily at smaller newspapers, I have an extremely varied background of experiences - from writing "hard" news and features to on-the-job training for new reporters just out of college or new to the profession.

Excellent English Student, Looking to help others excel

I have always been an excellent English student, including reading, grammar, spelling, and writing, to name a few. All throughout grades school, I received exceptional grades, especially in language arts and English. I have received awards recognizing my writing, speaking, spelling, and grammar. I take education very seriously and I like to instruct others so they, too, can be all that they can be in life.
The teaching style that I use has been my method of learning for the past twenty years. Memorization, creativity, and fun all help people learn better. When the work is boring, the mind shuts down and gets distracted. I have a BA in Creative Writing, which I have put to use not only in my writing but I am a proofreader to several other beginning author’s stories. They rely on me to fix their grammatical, spelling and usage errors so their writing flows more smoothly. In reading books I enjoy teaching others the overall theme, morals and observations that the author was trying to convey. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview.
