I believe that individuals of any age can learn new skills with the right instructor. The first step that any educator should take is to learn from students what approach works best with them. I do this by using multiple approaches for the same topic until it is fully understood in a way that makes practical application a natural progression. I am observant and empathetic in tutoring situations and will always adapt to the method that works. I often find that real world experiences and examples make the best teaching moments. Teaching mainly K-8 on a consistent schedule, I have learned that some students need one-on-one teaching. Being the third teacher in Head Start, I had time to work with individual students. All children were very well prepared for kindergarten. The older children, including High School and Middle School, I would walk around the room and aide them when they were confused. I also had them read the text orally taking turns and we would do the work sheet to prepare for quiz, test or new chapter. I am very patient with those who are truly in need of assistance. I have tutored in the past in phonics for those having difficulty reading and pronouncing letters.
