A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate from UNC Charlotte, I was blessed with the opportunity to earn a B.A. in English, as well as a professional certification in techncial writing and editing, which has afforded me both knowledge and experience in both journalism and technical media. In addition, I have acquried extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers, as well as conducting articles which were seen by more than 30,000 subscribers nationwide at my previous publication
It is my belief that every student yearns to acquire an education. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the instructor to find that spark and create a learning regimen geared towards that students specific method of learning. In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. With this in mind I find the best teaching style for each child. I enjoy using songs to enforce concepts in all subjects. I also enjoy having students discover and comprehend concepts on their own. I am far from a book and paper teacher, although, the concepts learned will relate to the material taught in class.

I taught at Brevard High School for 4 years as a Computer Engineering and Networking instructor. I am currently working part time as the Computer Lab Instuctor/IT Tech Support contact at Immaculata Catholic School in Hendersonville, NC. I am looking for part time work to supplement my hours at Immaculata. I also have many years of one on one teaching and training with students, workers, administration, and management. In other words, I believe I can work with various levels of understanding.

As tutors we must recognize their individual learning styles along with their strengths and weaknesses to help them succeed. Most children seem to learn best visually and kinesthetically. Through pre-testing, we can learn where the child needs to start instruction and to look for gaps in learning that often cause confusion interfering with their ability to learn a particular concept. We must most of all be patient to reduce anxiety which can interfere with learning and build a rapport with each child.
