More About This Tutor...

Hi! I'm looking forward to working this summer, and I am especially excited about the opportunity to tutor online! I graduated from TJ High in 2011, and I'm now attending High Point University as a Strategic Communication and Human Relations double major. I am also working toward a minor in Marketing. Throughout high school, I earned a 3.92 grade point average, which means in my 8 semesters, I only finished 2 classes with a grade lower than A. During this time, I took 7 AP courses (World History, Psychology, US History, Calculus AB/BC, Literature, Environmental Science, and European History), which allowed me to enter college more than a semester ahead of most of my peers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I help my students to ask questions about why something is this way or that way. It is not as simple as just memorizing subject matter in order to regurgitate it for the upcoming test. The purpose of teaching is to help others understand something that is known as true.
I was on honor roll in high school on a consistent basis. My best subjects were English and Writing. I attended Pennsylvania State University for Communications with a focus on English Writing and the study of Film and Media Arts. I have a thorough understanding of the English language and a strong knack for comprehension. I believe that I would be able to teach my techniques for not just memorizing subject matter but for comprehending and understanding it.

As a holder of a Bachelor's in Social Work, I have a great deal of experience mentoring and tutoring students of various ages and abilities. I have worked with adult learners and high school age students with disabilities. I have a strong background in English and Grammar due to an extensive amount of college level paper writing. I maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout my college years. I am experienced in tutoring in English composition and writing skills, psychology, sociology, social work and human services courses, theatre and arts, and basic chemistry.
I love teaching and interacting with students of all ages and ability levels. I believe that each person is unique and receives information in a unique way. I believe that learning through hands-on experience is the best way to fully comprehend material. I want to interest students in academics. To accomplish this, a teacher must show how math, or reading is useful; how anything can be exciting. I want to make learning fun. And I use a variety of tactics to accomplish this.
I recently graduated from Bard College, a selective liberal arts school in New York. I have taken classes in a variety of subjects including biology, french, history, and writing. I recently completed a 90 page thesis. I have excellent critical thinking and writing skills, which have served me well as a student. As a tutor, I strive to engage my students in thinking complexly about the topic at hand. I have experience tutoring middle school aged children in music, math, and writing. I also have experience working with preschool aged children.

A Little Bit About Me...

Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.
With all of my experience and education, I have had the opportunity to work with all facets of children; from those who require a great deal of help, to those who might just need a little more challenge then what their work was providing them. Having worked with large and diverse groups of children I have assisted in English, math, science, and social studies from grade school to high school. I am very dedicated and passionate about what ... read more

More About This Tutor...

When I was in the classroom I prided myself in "getting the educational job" done while at the same time having some fun. I have always had a strong rapport with students and believe I am adept at transferring my knowledge and educational talents. I consider myself to be a strong motivator without being overbearing.
I started my college education at Stanford University but finished up Cal State Stanislaus University with a degree in physical education and biology. I then taught primarily language arts and science at the middle school level for three years. After satisfying my educational wanderlust, I am now re-entering the educational field. I consider myself to be an extremely strong teacher, particularly in the language arts field.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently attending West Virginia University to attain my Masters Degree in Human Nutrition. While I have been here, I have had the opportunity to tutor other students in various classes such as biology, anatomy, nutrition, communications, sociology, english, and psychology. I am most fit to tutor in science classes, since that is what my major has required for me to have a strong focus in. I am a very dedicated and organized student and am able to use these talents to help other students to learn how to be the same way. Being a college student myself, I am able to relate to the struggles they are going through and to teach them helpful studying and work techniques in order for them to succeed.
I have greatly enjoyed my past few years of tutoring. I love being able to give other students the tools and the self-confidence they need in order to succeed. I am a very patient perso ... read more

Through personal and professional experience, I have come to believe that fluency is most quickly achieved through immersion in a language (and instruction in only that language). However, accuracy can be developed and maintained more consistently when a student is able to compare his or her native tongue to the one which he or she is studying - as long as the student has a good understanding of the grammar and other basics of the native language. As a result, I believe in that constant exposure to a language, coupled with conceptual comparison to the native tongue, will foster the best combination of fluency and accuracy. I also believe that appreciation of the cultural and historical elements of a foreign language will encourage students in their studies and help them maintain enthusiasm when they meet a challenge.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a demonstrative teacher and leader. I believe in the theory of "model, action, and talk" style of presentation of concepts. My creative background lends itself well to keeping a student's initiative and inspiration to a high level so that they are actually motivated to perform at their best. My personality traits are that I am disciplined and a believer in seeking the truth. My personal goals at this point are to inspire other children to want to learn so that learning and writing are not perceived as boring and meaningless and that through writing, the student will want to continue past the assignment and invoke writing and communication through creative channels into their daily lives so that this becomes a "life-skill."

Through teaching I have explored the impact that I can make on a child’s mind, while through art I explored the impact that it has made on adult minds. Teaching has allowed me to educate children and make a different type of contribution that will have a lasting affect on their futures. I believe teaching children is one of the biggest responsibilities that we provide. It is also the most influential part of a child’s life. The style of teaching that has beneficial in my teaching experience in Baltimore City is Differentiated Instruction. Through differentiated instruction I have been able to educate all of my students who perform at different learning levels in language arts and computer technology. My primary goal is to educate children, learn extensively from their educational development, and have an understanding on how to provide them with all of the tools that they need to be succ ... read more
