I have been a tutor for the last few years, and I officially became a level 1 and level 2 certifiet tutor through the college reading and learning associations. I have worked with students and peers in basic math, and algebra subjects as well as biology and advanced science courses. I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Biology and minors in chemistry and psychology. I graduated with honors and I am also a former student athlete. I know a great deal about how to work with students as my mom is n elementary school teacher and I have volunteered with her classes multiple times and I have also given pitching lessons to younger kids in my hometown. A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. I would also focus on teaching proper study habits so the individuals can apply them and possibly not need a tutor in the future.

Since working with the disabled folks I have learned patience is a virtue. I also learned that each person is very unique and learns in different ways. I will meet your child's individual needs and try to show them a subject matter from a different point of view. I strongly believe that if a subject matter is presented in a more fun, exciting way to the student, it becomes more interesting and the child is given the chance to not only memorize material, but more importantly to internalize it.

In 2002 I graduated with a degree in biotechnology. During the last semester of school, I was a substitute teacher, where I learned a lot about children and different teaching styles. After graduation, I pursued a career as a chemist, but I always maintained a second part-time job teaching, in some fashion. Usually, that teaching involved a pool. I have been a swimming lesson instructor for 10 years and have been a YMCA swim coach for 3 seasons, coaching over 200 children per year. In these opportunities, I've learned a lot about interacting with children. I am also a trainer for my coworkers and new employees who join our team.
