I have 20+ years as a highly qualified educator and I still have tons of energy and passion for teaching. I'm friendly, sometimes a little goofy, non-judgmental, and I have a special place in my heart for young folks who struggle in school. There are 3 options for services: (1) A multi-session plan based on the specific academic needs of the student (2) Help with day-to-day school work involving anything related to Language Arts; reading, research, writing, etc.(3) A hybrid of the two which would include a multi-session plan and on-demand homework help.
Above all, I make sure what we're learning is relevant to the student and is based off their interests-- not random and isolated. What sticks is what they care about and find interesting.

My comments on tutoring Poetry : My first poem was published when I was 16 years old. I write differently now-as much for fun as for seriousness. I am able to give good ideas to beginning poets, or help more mature writers learn structure and pattern. Part of poetry is learning to read your work aloud, using your voice as the music for the poem.

Teaching middle school and high school science from 1983 to 2004, including every science subject listed in the TutorSelect list. I have worked as an educational consultant for national science laboratories, helping them train their scientists to work better in the school classrooms where they volunteer. I have worked for museums and for outdoor education programs, but have found the most satisfaction as a classroom teacher with all kinds of students. I have worked teaching teachers, but they were very difficult students.
Multiple ways of presenting material; musically, visually, building models, finding answers by testing a hypothesis; experimenting, measuring, observing, seeing, touching.

My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have a BA in English

While in College I was a part time nanny for a single Mom with twins. I started taking care of the twins when they were 2 and continued until they were almost 4. I was an assistant teacher part time at little playmates preschool daycare. During my time there I worked with the 2 and 3 year old class and the 4 and 5 year old class. I also helped the older children with homework. I was responsible for helping with meals, playtime and supervising outside activities. I also volunteered at the learning tree center daycare preschool where I helped with story time and art activities. I was a religious education teacher from 2003 to 2004. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and learning. I made the Dean's List the entire time I attended UNM. I have always had a passion for education. I have earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education, which has enabled me to teach kindergarten through 12th grade. I also obtained my master's degree in Literacy at UNM. I was a Reading Specialist for three years and love working with children and helping them with their reading skills. During the last ten years I have taught kindergarten through High School and tutored students in reading. I have also substitute taught in an array of classes from science to social studies in the public schools.
