In a word, my teaching style is Socratic. Often that means I respond to a student’s question with a question that enables them to figure out answers for themselves. Other times, my questions are designed to stimulate ideas beyond the student’s view so they need to “stretch” a bit. I firmly believe this style encourages the student’s creativity and belief in their own capabilities. Coupled to the formal teaching and certainly as important is the relationship between the teacher and students that generates growth. My bias is that teaching - stimulating and watching a student learn-- is a wonderful delight.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style first involves me putting myself in the shoes of the students and forming my daily teaching in a organized, goal oriented and interesting manner. In math the goal is introduced and the concept taught with probing questions to stimulate their thinking and participation. Mistakes are not uncommon in math as I learned from my professors who were occasionally corrected by students; this gives students an increased confidence toward the mastering of the subject. Especially in math, an empowerment of learning math must be seen in the teaching experience; this is one of the key requirements I have in my teaching philosophy. I beam when the light bulb goes on in the mind of the student! I teach so that the student knows once they learn a math concept, they will never have to relearn it again as it will never change.

I love the idea of being the person that has helped someone further their knowledge. I have always been a person that will take the time to teach someone something so they fully understand what they’re doing. I am patient, easy going and understand that everyone learns differently. I believe if you help the student get excited about learning, it not only makes learning easier but makes the subject more enjoyable.
During college I worked for NMSU and CYFD providing two types of tutoring services. With NMSU I worked with fellow college students in classes that I previously passed, which mainly included Accounting and Math. With CYFD I worked with young mothers trying to obtaining their GED.
