A Little Bit About Me...

I believe I can be a good teacher as I have the necessary background and the experience. The fact that I like sharing knowledge would only add to my interest in a teaching opportunity. When I first work with a student, I like to get to know the method of teaching that they have already experienced from their math teacher. This allows me to know what sort of methods and teaching styles they student has already been exposed to and thus allow me to elimnate strategies that do not work. I started teaching karate classes at age 14. I managed a classroom with students ranging from age 2 1/2 to age 60. I tutored all through college and continue to tutor now in chemistry, physics, math, and Spanish. I also volunteer at Dorothea Dix (a mental hospital) assisting mentally ill adults with basic education (GED and/or literacy training).
The best way to help someone learn is not by telling him or her the answer. The best way is to lead the student, through well-thought-out lines of questioning, to the right answer. In this way, the student will remember the material better, because he or she extracted it from his or her own head, and the student feels confident in his or her abilities.
