Education has always been one of my greatest facinations. I achieved a BA in English grammars, a MLA in creative writing, and fifteen credits towards a PhD in literature and literary criticism. I discovered the writing center at my undergraduate university and became a tutor immediately. I found that I was in a position to learn just as much at the students I tutored. I want students to understand how to get to the answers, why the answers are correct and how to do it themselves. This skill boosts self esteem and confidence. I graduated from high school with honors from a school that never pushed the effectiveness of attending college to students. I maintained my focus and attended Virginia State University in the fall of 2006. My mother was my inspiration, so much that I ventured towards science as my field of study. During Grad School I tutored high school math and science students as well as college freshman in Chemistry. After Grad School I have worked as a youth pastor and during this time i have tutored numerous students from my youth group in mathematics and science as well.
I love teaching high school students and I realize that each student learns in a different style. While some find it easy to learn in the classroom setting, many need individual attention which is where tutors come in. Teachers simply cannot give each student the individual attention that they might need. Also, teachers need to be hands on in their delivery. Too many teachers simply lecture, which I have found very few students that effective learn by having a lecturing teacher.
