A Little Bit About Me...

For the last seven years, I have taught and tutored English to adults who speak other languages. In the last two years, I have added tutoring students in grades 3-12. While teaching English as a Second Language at a local college, I was a lead lab instructor for two years. Students work with me on pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. They also work on improving their test taking skills. I have a Masters Degree in the area of Child Development and Family Life, and a Bachelors Degree in the areas of History and English.
We do not all learn to speak, read and write languages in the same way. Some of us learn by mostly hearing or saying; some of us learn by mostly seeing and looking; and some of us learn by mostly doing, using touch and moving parts of our bodies or things. My teaching style embraces differences among learners to understand why they respond the way they do. As an instructor, I want to understand how members/groups learn and maintain the balance in the classroom. I provide learning through a variety of ways such as powerpoint presentations, lectures to supplement the weekly readings, provide additional resources to support the material. The most important benefit that I can offer my students is to be accessible to them at all times.
